Log in to SILICON VALLEY
The Silicon Valley was head over heels as Leaders of two Developing Countries met TechTitans within a week’s Gap.
Following the visit of China’s Leader Mr. Xi Jinping, a week before, the Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Modi, met the TechTitans to push his campaign “Digital India”, an ambitious project of the Government of India to ensure that government services are made available to citizens electronically by improving online infrastructure and by increasing internet connectivity.
The two day trip to Silicon Valley of US saw the Prime Minister of India, meeting CEOs of Several Tech Giants. Mr.Modi, 65, was the first Indian leader to visit the west coast in more than 30 years.
Technology executives, eager to expand into India with its 1.3 billion population, embraced Modi’s initiative. CEOs from Facebook Inc, Google Inc and Tesla Motors hosted him at their headquarters. Apple Inc chief executive Tim Cook met with Modi at his hotel.
Major Announcements From TechGaints:
It seems that Apple CEO Tim Cook had nodded for setting a manufacturing base in India, yet the Official Announcement hadn’t arrived.
Albeit, Google announced it’s teaming up with Indian Railways to provide Free Wi-Fi at 500 Railway Stations. This was followed after Microsoft’s announcement of providing Low cost broadband tech to more than 5 lakhs villages along with setting up of cloud computing systems from Data Centers in India.
In an effort to push Digital India initiative, chipmaker Qualcomm said it will invest $150 million for Indian start-ups in the mobile and internet-of-everything (IoE) ecosystem. It has also promised to set up an innovation lab at Bengaluru.
The US Media described Modi’s visit as Conqueror of Silicon Valley.
“Modi’s trip to Silicon Valley signals the rising influence and economic power wielded by this technology hotbed,” The Washington Post said.
Modi’s visit “was partly a recognition of the tremendous Indian influence at tech firms”, the Post said, “Nearly 16 percent of tech startups have Indian founders” and “Indians and Indian Americans make up an outsize proportion of the tech workforce”.
Some were disappointed with this visit as the visit neither showed any real potential of job commitment in India nor did it showed any progress in bringing much awaited Tesla to India. Moreover, few of Modi’s stops were met with protests of his human rights record on 2002 Gujarat Religious riots.
FUN FACT: Modi is an avid user of social media and the second-most followed world leader after the US president, Barack Obama.
